The Trailhead – Day 6

Devotional - The Word of God

In today's reading, the "Word" spoken of here is referring to Jesus. Jesus, in a literal sense, is the spoken Word of God. Words can reveal and make sense of something by describing it, which is what Jesus did. Jesus is the visible representation of the invisible God (Hebrews 1:3).

When God spoke the world into existence, there was Jesus as the active force to make it a reality. Jesus is 100% God, but also 100% human. God's “Word” in the flesh is who we know as Jesus (Romans 8:3).

Jesus has a unique characteristic highlighted by this verse. Jesus is full of grace and truth. These usual opposing views are brought together by Jesus and lived out in his earthly ministry.

There are two sides to this "grace and truth" idea mentioned in this verse. One side is, how do you receive grace and truth? The second is, how do you give grace and truth?

As a baptized Disciple of Jesus, you have received his full grace—the grace of God and forgiveness of sins? You’re have been gifted his complete love for you and the forgiveness of your sins by simply walking in obedience to his Word and being baptized. But you must continue to listen to his truth and be obedient to his voice.

How about extending that grace to others? Are you loving others the way God has loved you? Are you also standing for truth? Not in the form of a judge but as a beacon of light for others to see the way to God, sharing your faith and inviting others to know Jesus?

Take some time to be in complete silence. Quiet your mind from all the noise of your day. Place all your energy into listening and preparing your heart for what God might speak to you.

List out 5 people you can share your faith with and invite to study the Bible today!

Prayer

Lord, you are welcome here with me. I invite you to come and speak to my heart. You know everything about me, and yet you still love me. Thank you for your acceptance and freedom to be with you. Help me to share this same love and freedom with others today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Scripture

John 1:14

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 1:3

3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Romans 8:3

3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,
