MyJourney - MyJourney | Food and Fire
What kind of conversations are we supposed to have in life? Not just on special occasions, but every day? In Colossians 4:6, the Apostle Paul says our conversations should be gracious and attractive. Why? He explains that it is so that you will have the right response for everyone. What does that mean? If you go back a verse you’ll see that we’re called to make the most of every opportunity to share the Gospel by living wisely among those who are not Disciples. Nothing kills the message of God’s love and sacrifice more than when we, his children, say one thing but behave in an entirely different manner, when we don't walk the walk, but just talk the talk. It’s been said that you may be the only Bible someone ever reads, make sure it’s a positive encounter! That’s a daunting task, but it's one that Christ stands ready to help us achieve.
As a follower of Christ, what percentage of your everyday conversations are positive and faith-filled? Our words can be fuel or water. They can be used to put out a blaze and to satisfy our thirst, or they can add to the fire and destroy. How can your conversations be adjusted to reflect this verse? How will that impact an onlooking world at your workplace, neighborhood, in your classes, and family life? As a parent, there’s nothing more humbling than to hear your child say something unflattering in public and know as soon as they say it, that they learned it by watching and listening to you!
In Philippians 1:10 Paul makes a connection between what “really matters” and living a “pure and blameless” life. What do you think “really matters” in life? Try this exercise to help you know what matters to you: Write the eulogy you hope your loved ones will say at your funeral. It can be an eye-opening experience. If you look at where you spend your time and money, would that tell you what really matters to you? How do you feel about the answer? If you make what matters a priority in your life, would that help you live a “pure and blameless” life?
Pray that God gives you a heart that will speak faith-filled words to others. Make a prayer list of those you need to speak life to, especially inviting them to study the Bible. Pray every day this week for an opportunity to show them God’s love through your words and actions.
Colossians 4:5-6
5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Philippians 1:10
10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
